AV Solutions for Education on Training Ship

Georg Stage is the world’s oldest active training ship, offering young people a maritime education and life-changing experiences at sea. The idea for the ship came from shipowner Frederik Stage in the late 19th century, as the Danish merchant navy was in desperate need of skilled mariners. The ship was named in memory of his son, Georg, who tragically passed away from tuberculosis in 1880 at the age of just 23. Two years later, the foundation “Georg Stages Minde” was established, and the training ship became a reality. The original ship served until 1934, when it was replaced by a larger vessel — the same ship that sails today.

Project: Upgrading AV Equipment for Education

The three-masted full-rigged ship required an upgrade of its audiovisual systems in the training areas located in the fore and aft messes. These spaces serve multiple functions: they are classrooms, dining areas, and sleeping quarters, where students sleep in hammocks. With 63 students onboard and training sessions taking place around the clock during voyages, the AV solution needed to be robust, low-maintenance, and easy to operate.

Solution: Reliable Laser Projector Setup

AV-Huset provided consultancy, installation, and commissioning of the AV system onboard Georg Stage.
Laser projectors with appropriate brightness levels were mounted using custom brackets in all three training spaces. These projectors offer high operational reliability with up to 20,000 hours of maintenance-free use. Content is projected onto existing whiteboards.

In addition, we supplied active speakers with bracket mounts, an HDMI splitter to synchronize content across two projectors in the fore mess, and a video conferencing system for wireless content sharing.
The system supports both wireless and wired (HDMI) connections. Audio is looped through the projector, and all equipment is controlled via remote.

All AV installations were carried out with great care and respect for the ship’s unique and historical interior.
