What is a laser projector?

LCD Laser Projectors
An LCD laser projector combines two technologies: LCD, or Liquid Crystal Display, for image production and a laser as the light source. LCD technology is known for producing vivid and accurate colours. When combined with a laser light source, it provides sharp images with high colour saturation and detailed picture quality. Although LCD laser projectors provide excellent colour reproduction, they may have a lower contrast ratio than DLP projectors, particularly in very dark scenes. LCD panels also degrade over time, meaning that image quality will gradually decline.

DLP Laser Projectors
A DLP laser projector combines Digital Light Processing technology with a laser light source. It is a powerful solution that provides high contrast, sharp images and a long operating life. This makes it suitable for both professional and entertainment applications. It is particularly effective for presentations, films, gaming and video projects where motion and image quality are essential.
DLP technology is known for delivering a high contrast ratio, resulting in sharp and detailed images with deep blacks and bright highlights. DLP laser projectors are therefore particularly well suited to films, graphic content and presentations where fine image detail is important.
DLP technology also offers a high refresh rate, creating smooth and fluid on-screen movement. This is beneficial when displaying action scenes, sport or other motion-intensive content. DLP laser projectors are therefore a strong choice for films, gaming and video presentations.
Unlike LCD technology, DLP does not degrade in the same way because it uses microscopic mirrors. DLP projectors can therefore maintain the same high level of image quality throughout the projector’s lifespan.
Although DLP projectors provide high contrast and sharpness, single-chip DLP projectors may offer slightly lower colour saturation than three-chip LCD projectors. This means that colours may not always appear quite as vivid. When colour accuracy and a long lifespan are key priorities, a three-chip DLP projector designed for professional and advanced applications may be the right choice.

Ultra Short Throw Projectors When Space Is Limited
An Ultra Short Throw projector, also known as a UST projector, is a practical solution that provides high image quality in compact spaces. It is ideal for environments where space is limited, such as small meeting rooms or museum exhibitions where a large-format image is required.
An Ultra Short Throw projector can be positioned very close to the wall or projection screen while still producing a large image measuring between 80 and 120 inches, or even larger, from a distance of just 10 to 50 centimetres. UST projectors can therefore be positioned almost directly above or below the surface onto which they project. This is possible because of the projector’s advanced optics, which are designed to project a large image over a very short distance without distortion.
Because the UST projector is positioned so close to the wall, people or objects moving through the room are less likely to cast shadows across the image.
EU Ban on Projectors with Replaceable Lamps
We focus on laser projectors because projectors with replaceable lamps are gradually being phased out. A new EU directive bans products containing mercury, although lamp-based projectors and replacement lamps are currently exempt until February 2027. This EU legislation is moving the market towards a final farewell to traditional lamp-based projectors with replaceable lamps. It is therefore time to consider more modern solutions such as laser projectors, which not only provide better performance but also offer future-ready technology.
