Moving Toward Cloud-Based AV and Standardized Solutions

October 21, 2025

The AV industry is undergoing a major transformation. Where professional AV systems were once built around closed, hardware-dependent solutions, the focus is now shifting toward cloud-based and standardized AV technologies. This evolution is driven by growing demands for remote management, data analysis, automation, and integration with IT infrastructure.

As AV and IT continue to converge, it is becoming increasingly important that systems from different manufacturers can work seamlessly together. A recent article from the industry association AVIXA highlights that the ability of systems to connect and communicate across brands will be a key success factor in the coming years.

OpenAV Cloud Unites the Industry Around Common Standards

A central initiative in this shift is OpenAV Cloud, launched in May 2025. OpenAV Cloud is a nonprofit association of some of the world’s leading AV manufacturers, integrators, and technology providers.
Its goal is clear: to promote open, cloud-native AV solutions based on shared standards, open APIs, and secure data exchange.

Among the founding members are Panasonic, BrightSign, Shure, and Sony. Together, they are working to develop cloud-to-cloud integration and ensure that users have greater control of their own data, while systems across different brands can communicate efficiently and securely.

This level of collaboration signals that the AV industry is moving toward a more open ecosystem, where innovation and flexibility are at the forefront.

Why Cloud-Based AV Makes Sense

The shift to cloud-based AV is not just about technology – it’s about operations, scalability, and future-readiness. Cloud solutions make it possible to monitor and manage AV installations across multiple locations, reduce maintenance costs, and leverage data to improve user experiences.

With standardized protocols and open interfaces (APIs), it becomes much easier to integrate AV with IT systems, building management, security, and communication platforms. This creates real value for end users, integrators, and manufacturers alike.

A More Open AV Ecosystem

Initiatives like OpenAV Cloud demonstrate that the industry can come together to foster innovation and freedom for customers, integrators, and manufacturers. They represent an important step toward a more open and collaborative AV ecosystem, where system integration and security are built in from the very start.

OpenAV Cloud is still in its early stages, but with leading companies taking the lead, the initiative marks a turning point for the AV industry. At AV-Huset, we are closely following this development and the opportunities it brings.
